vague thoughts marinating in brain soup right now

One can get into a power posture for 2 minutes and create a a better impression than if you do not get into the posture or if you take a low-power posture. I *STILL* want to live to 300 but to be clear b/c people have asked about this....I want to live to that age as a robust physical human. *NO* , I don't want to live as a decrepit body and brain hooked up to machines. duh. I cannot give up the idea that though specialist types are needed ( rather than generalists), even specialists should make an effort to delve into other areas outside their specialty. I like the idea that a general university education is coming back into vogue. The authentic happiness, positive psychology stuff seems so...light. Still, I feel sorry for people who feel unhappy all the time. When I feel unhappy, i think - geez there are people who feel this way every hour! How horrid to live that way. Same for people who are - i don't know- so egocentric, or insecure -not sure exactly so that they see everything as if whatever is going on is happening to them or about them. Some examples are the person who takes personal offense at another driers mistake or aggressive driving. The person who thinks an anonymous gas station attendant is "out to screw me" for some money mixup that happened. These are fairly obvious but href are more subtle situations too. This seems an incredibly skewed, harmful lens through which to view events of one's life. I am still in love with my prescription to always assume positive of someone's motives when things do not go right. This helps in many dimensions when dealing with the situation. It is the old platitude " Be kind for everyone is fighting a hard battle" Not actually the exact quote, but you get the idea.

QUOTES

There are so many great snips of writing. I cant imagine how people work their magic with words. Funny, profound, brilliant with insight. SO many times there's a bit of writing and i think OH MY GOSH ! That IS EXACTLY EXACTLY what I think but cannot put into words - much less the amazingly eloquent, succinct, knock-em-dead-with-laser-tight-verbage that great writers bring forth and - share. You'de think people would have already combined all the English words into every possible sentence. but no. They keep coming. ALL ARE QUOTES. I don't have the patience to annotate each with the source. “The most fundamental aggression to ourselves, the most fundamental harm we can do to ourselves, is to remain ignorant by not having the courage and the respect to look at ourselves honestly and gently.” “Never confuse faith, or belief—of any kind—with something even remotely intellectual.” ― John Irving, A Prayer for Owen Meany
